In November 2024 Lisa Marie Edelkraut and I traveled together to the Isthmus of Panama in Central America. It was here in the 16th century that the Spaniards cut a trading path through the rainforest connecting the Pacific Ocean in the south and the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic Ocean) in the north. They called it the Camino Real and its main purpose was the transportation of gold and silver captured from South America. The path then fell into oblivion and was reclaimed by the dense jungle. Today some segments can still be made out in the lavish green, but if one is willing to walk the path again, an introduction to the rules of the tropical rainforest is advised. Together with our three experienced guides Alexis Guevara Guia, Molinar Torbio and Higinio De Leon we trekked for four days along the northern part of the Camino Real through pristine jungle and came out of it again (alive) at Portobelo in the Caribbean. We very much wish to thank our guides on the trek and CULTOUR PANAMA for organizing and making it possible.
